Seems like only yesterday that I ran, hiked and climbed the local ‘mountain’.
And if it wasn’t for that calf injury I would have made it back down a lot faster with my running. Albeit the slow jog felt like forever.
So how far can we push ourselves before we ‘break’ – what will the body endure, if the mind doesn’t break first?
Legs have a habit of cramping first, then the stitches in the stomach, and of course, a pulled or strained calf, or ‘twisted’ ankle injury.
For most parts, the best way of avoiding these type of issues is training, the more you walk or run, the more ready you will be – the fitter body.
Other ways, such as stretching the legs so that the muscles are ready for the expansive running and training. This sretching which is performed as part of a warm-up prior to exercise reduces passive stiffness, increases blood flow and increases the range of movement during exercise. All of this will help you run faster and prevent muscle strain.
